Seen & Heard: Mitsuki Japanese Market opens tomorrow

MITSUKI JAPANESE MARKET SOFT OPEN ON OCT. 12
The Japanese market coming to 36 Park Row and Beekman — Mitsuki — will have a soft open on Thursday, Oct. 12, with an official opening in November. It’s small — just 1200 square feet — just north of Starbucks, but should be fun. The family-owned company opened another one like it in Greenpoint last August.

OPTIMUM OFFERING FREE CALLING TO ISRAEL
I was paying my mother’s cable bill and noticed that Optimum is offering free calling and texting to Israel for its Optimum phone and Optimum Mobile customers until further notice.

RIBBON CUTTING AT 15 BEEKMAN
Pace University will hold an official ribbon cutting at 15 Beekman, its new 26-story residential tower at the corner of Nassau. The building houses 500 students, dining facilities, a library and learning center, modernized classrooms, and three floors dedicated to the new Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems.

A MEMORIAL FOR A SHOPDOG OF TRIBECA
Craig Scharlin, who with his wife, Lilia Villanueva, had the TAMA Gallery at 5 Harrison from 2002 to 2010, got in touch recently to find a photo taken by Asha Agnish of his dog Christopher. Christopher was reaching the end of his life at their home in the Philippines at the age of 16, which is very old for a Havanese — he sounded like a very well-loved pup — and Craig hoped to memorialize him in an album. It’s worth revisiting the features on other popular pups here in this post from 2010, including Fred from Steven Amedee, Sugar Ray from Abhaya, and Marley from Reade Street Animal Hospital.
