Pier 25 playground gets a facelift

Two sections of the Pier 25 playground in Hudson River Park are being renovated as of today, with an expected finish date of late December.

The swing area is getting a new safety surface — some folks got last licks last night — and the water play area needs plumbing repairs, a new safety surface and some reconstruction of the concrete slab underneath. The Hudson River Park Trust will also repair some of the splash equipment. The repairs were timed to skip peak play months.

The rest of the playground will mostly remain open, though it might need to be closed entirely for safety during some stages of construction, like jackhammering of the concrete.
