Seen & Heard: Local kids win big dance award

LOCAL KIDS WIN AT INDUSTRY DANCE AWARDS
The founders of Downtown Dance Factory, Tribecans Hanne Larsen and Melanie Zrihen, accepted the award for “Best Musical Theater Performance” at the Industry Dance Awards, a national event that honors dancers, educators, pioneers and dance icons (Shirley MacLaine won this year) for their outstanding achievements and artistic contributions while also raising money to fight cancer. Choreographed by Al Blackstone, the performance featured local dancers Charlie Head, Justa Van Gaal, Eloise Valero, Ryan Berger, Sadie Fraser, Serena Labianca and Stella Wong.

TRIBECA PHYSICAL THERAPY EXPANDS
Tribeca Physical Therapy, which opened in October 2019 at 225 Broadway, has expanded from its original 700-square-foot clinic to a second facility on the same floor with 4,500 square feet. The smaller space will be catering to women’s health/pelvic health issues and the larger space will be tackling those common orthopedic and musculoskeletal issues such as back pain, shoulder pain and sports physical therapy.

INTERACTIVE MAP FOR CITY STREETS’ HISTORY
The Department of City Planning has created an interactive tool called NYC Street Map that includes the comprehensive mapping and history of New York City streets, including their width, angles and more. The app includes the streets as originally mapped, in some cases in the early 20th century, building on previous versions of the NYC Street Map tool that included only alterations to the city map. The total history of New York City’s more than 32,000 streets is now a click away for New Yorkers aiming to request a change to their street, pursue changes to their property, or find out more about the history of New York.

NEW EXHIBIT AT FIRE MUSEUM
The New York City Fire Museum has a new exhibit up called “Becoming the Bravest,” a behind the scenes look at becoming a firefighter. The show focuses on the Probationary Firefighters School at the Fire Academy using photographs, uniforms, helmets, patches, firefighter equipment and other unique artifacts from the Museum’s collection, as well as information, photographs, and video supplied by the FDNY.
