Seen & Heard: Name the river’s Waste Shark

NAME THE WASTE SHARK
Hudson River Park now has a waste shark, a remote-controlled aquadrone that sucks up hard-to-reach plastic pollution into its inner basket. And the park is asking members of the public to name it. (Yes, Sharky McSharkface will most certainly be among the suggestions.) Make your suggestions here.

MARC FORGIONE ON COOKUNITY
CookUnity, the Brooklyn-based chef collective that offers a meal subscription service, is featuring Marc Forgione’s turkey Bolognese among its meals. The heat-and-eat service is subscription based for a max of about $10 per meal. The company provides kitchen space, ingredients and other services for their large line-up of chefs, so the meals can be scaled.

NEW COOKIE KIOSK ON CEDAR
Pi Bakery on Cedar Street has opened up the takeout-only Cookie Odyssey in the little kiosk on Cedar and William. Flavors include chocolate chip, pecan pie, ginger chocolate, triple chocolate chunk and a “Banana Cyclops” (get it? Odyssey?) in full and miniature sizes.

WHERE NEW YORK BEGINS
The Ramapo-Munsee Lenape and the South Street Seaport Museum will together host a Land and Water Acknowledgement Ceremony to honor the Native people of the region on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2p at 12 Fulton. Tribal leaders will give remarks and discuss the history of Lenapehoking, the Indigenous territory of the Canarsee and Manahatoos, who once cultivated and protected the lands that are now known as the South Street Seaport. The ceremony will include screening of the short film Silent Tribute, A Rainey Film & Media Production, and close with a traditional flute song. More info here.

  1. My CookUnity subscription is $13.59 per meal plus taxes and fees. Usually average about $73 for 4 meals per week so about $18.25 a meal. Overall very happy with the quality and choice of meals.
