2023 Shop-Local Gift Guide: Teens!

Only because they are the most difficult group to shop for am I adding this last post for the 2023 guide, assembled during our shopping excursions. Teens! You gotta love them. Especially if they’re yours.

BOOMERANG TOYS
119 West Broadway | Reade & Duane
Yes, yes, it’s a toy shop, but teens still are capable of fun, even on their bad days.
••• ICYMI, Formula 1 is super hot right now — and the pair are going to my obsessed nephew so they can race. Maisto R/C Race Cars, $48, Ferrari $38
••• Spikeball will get them out of the house and stand the test of time. Mine play on the college club team. Original $74 and Rookie (for 13 and under with a larger ball) $65
••• Had to add a third since I thought this was an original: Thames & Kosmos Hydraulic Boxing Bots are part science kit, part competitive game. $52

LOLA TRIBECA
24 Harrison | Greenwich & Hudson
Give the kid something that didn’t come from Urban Outfitters.
••• You won’t go wrong with bracelets from Anni Lu. $79 – $129

STICK AND POKE FASHION
Tribeca teen Ava Ronning upcycles the coolest sweatpants out of old T-shirts that she thrifts by the pound. Custom order are an option if you have more time (I did for my 21-year-old son’s birthday and they were a huge hit), but she has some on her website ready-to-wear.

CLIC
140 West Broadway @ Thomas
••• The fingerless gloves let them have easy access to their screens even in the cold.

BALLOON SALOON
133 West Broadway at Duane
••• For the kid who is burning through the cash: money origami. $20
••• We recommended the LiteBrite for the littles, but it would be a classic addition to a teen’s room and a good procrastination technique. $35

CYNTHIA ROWLEY
8 Jay at Staple
••• Rowley’s floral designs are great for the teenage set, and we loved these 5-inch organza flower ties that could be used so many ways for the fashion forward: as a headband, as a belt, tied to a bag or backpack.

PEARL RIVER MART
452 Broadway at Grand
••• I haven’t seen this anywhere else and now my nephew is getting it: Naruto Monopoly. $50

OK UNIFORM
This place is a dream for quirky teens, especially the ones who wear Carhartt ironically. Note that they close early — around 3:30 — and are closed on weekends.
••• Minor league ball caps with cool logos that make conversation starters. These are from the Negro League in the ’40s. $24 – $26.

ELAN FLOWERS
1 Worth at Hudson
••• Pair the flower press ($24) with a bouquet in her favorite color; later the pressed flowers become a project of their own.

ONDA BEAUTY
117 West Broadway
••• There’s always something fun and special for teens among the original beauty products here, and this year we went for the Kosas lip plumper wet lip oil. $25

BLUE MERCURY
275 Greenwich at Warren
••• I took my own teen on the gift guide hunt and she said the Dyson Airwrap hair dryer is all over TikTok (get it here instead of Amazon), $600, and she tagged the Moroccanoil shimmering body oil for herself, $48
