Seen & Heard: Starbucks is getting close

A STARBUCKS FROM THIN AIR
Maybe that space has been under construction for a couple months? Or maybe Starbucks are 3D-printed in Seattle and shipped over in one piece. This one — in Independence Plaza on Greenwich south of N. Moore — looks like it is just about ready to go!

STORYDANCE PLAYGROUP FOR LITTLES
Downtown Dance Factory will host a free StoryDance Playgroup — a 45-minute class for children ages 1-4 years old and their grown-ups — on Monday, Feb. 12, at 10a. The class features dancing, story time, games and activities, and even a special ballerina performance. RSVP to info@downtowndancefactory.com or call 212-962-1800.

MCNALLY JACKSON AFTER HOURS BOOK CLUB
McNally Jackson has launched a new book club where in lieu of a traditional sit-down discussion, they will mix and mingle at their beer and wine bar and discuss a new book that they are particularly excited about, or an older title we think is worth revisiting. This first one After Hours: Swann in Love by Marcel Proust. The event is Feb. 16, 7p, and requires a reservation for $5 which is redeemable on the night of the event for any product in the store or cafe. RSVP here.

WALK AROUND THE COAST OF MANHATTAN
The Great Saunter, a walk that covers the entire 32-mile Manhattan shoreline with the group Shorewalkers, will go this year on May 4, staring at Frauces Tavern and heading up through Hudson River Park and beyond. The event is capped at 2000 people, and already 1000 are signed up. Register here.

  1. Fantastic! Another Starbucks! Just what is needed in our Starbucks-starved neighborhood!

  2. Anyone know when the starbucks opens for business? My wallet is already mourning the loss of my $$ (so am I)

  3. Interesting and welcome- yet, the building permit was dated 11/23. I had stopped into Caliza Next Door just before that time to buy coffee beans and the young lady there told me they had none. I remarked, “A coffee shop that doesn’t have coffee?”. I find it interesting that Caliza shut down just as STARBUCKS is opening. 🧐
