Seen & Heard: Looking handsome again

LOOKING HANDSOME AGAIN
While I was not happy to see Chanson close, I am glad to see 355 Greenwich liberated from the hideous fake flowers they had hanging from the corrugated loading bay roof. Of course it boggles the mind that this space — one of the most charming and prominent in the neighborhood, plus meticulously renovated — is sitting empty.

NEW REDISTRICTING FOR NY10
In case you were worried about it — and frankly I think we have much bigger political woes — the new redistricting for our NY10 US Rep seat did not change much. The image above shows the boundary lines imposed on one another. Where a bit of bright green peeks out, that’s the old border. You can study the map yourself here.

KAZUMI YOSHIDA AT CHERYL HAZAN
A solo show of Kazumi Yoshida, known for his eccentric large scale paintings with intense imagery, vibrant colors, will open on Feb. 22 at Cheryl Hazan Gallery on N. Moore. The exhibit is called Paysage Paradis and explores the landscape of Paradise and fantastic worlds. The reception is Feb. 22 from 6 to 8, and the artist will be present.

  1. I still miss The Harrison at 355 Greenwich.

    • I miss The Harrison too.

    • The Harrison was fantastic. Restaurants on that block have consistently struggled. It is just a really tough place. As we all know, foot traffic in Tribeca is low and the already small population declines substantially during key parts of the year for restaurants and other stores that rely on such traffic. Unless you have a true destination restaurant (e..g, Tamarind, Locanda Verde) you are going to have a real tough time in this neighborhood. That is the reality…I am a former restaurateur in Tribeca and SoHo for 30 years.

  2. Spartina!

  3. Howe’s Bayou!

  4. Thrilled to see Kazumi’s new inspirations.

  5. I miss Spartina even more, which was in the same space just prior to The Harrison.
