Seen & Heard: Two Tribeca artists at Kerry Schuss Gallery

TWO TRIBECA ARTISTS AT KERRY SCHUSS
Kerry Schuss Gallery (73 Leonard) is showing the work of two longtime Tribecans in a two-person show through March 16: photo emulsion on linen works from 1993-96 by Gwenn Thomas and recent ceramic sculpture by Monica Forrestall. Thomas studied at the Sorbonne and is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Art. She has had solo shows at galleries in Vienna, Berlin, Cologne, New York City, Lisbon and many others. Forrestall studied at The Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and received her BFA from Parsons School of Design. Her new ceramic sculptures are hand-built from red earthenware with a heavy applications of majolica glaze. More information here.

TARA FOUNDER IS AMONG SMALL BUSINESS AWARD WINNERS
Tara Kitchen founder Aneesa Waheed, who in addition to the Tribeca location has five restaurants in the Albany area, New Jersey and India, was named the National Small Business Week 2024 award winner for New York State by the federal Small Business Administration. The award winners, one for each state, are business owners, lending partners and advocates “who embody the grit and determination that power our nation’s economy and ensure disaster-impacted communities can recover.” The National Small Business Person of the Year will be chosen from among the individual state winners at the start of May.

EQUINOX FESTIVAL AT MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGE
The Museum of Jewish Heritage will present a Spring Equinox Festival, a daylong celebration of Persian Heritage during Purim and Nowruz, on Sunday, March 24. The daylong festival will feature cultural and educational programming from 10a to 5p including children’s activities, book readings, performances, a teenaged DJ, and a backgammon tournament — the game dates back nearly 5,000 years to Mesopotamia and Persia.

NOT A TRACE
It was kind of jarring to see the signage for Barnes & Noble erased on the facade of 101 Warren. It makes sense of course, just made me sigh.
