Gallery coming to long-empty space on Duane

Thanks to S. for spotting: the long empty and huge space on Duane between Broadway and Church will very soon be the new home of Bureau, a contemporary art gallery that was formerly on Norfolk Street. More soon when their doors are officially open but it looks like they are very close: the art was being hung this morning when I went by. This is also yet another addition to the ever-expanding Tribeca Gallery District.

Bureau was founded in 2010 by Gabrielle Giattino and supports artists engaged with art history, many of whom are featured in prominent international exhibitions, biennials and represented in numerous public collections.

According to my records, that space has been empty since 2016, when Tribeca Duane Cleaners left. And S. said: “Also there was a check cashing business and then a side store that sold little souvenirs. It was all three. I have been around for 30 years so I know everything that was in place within that time frame!” The space is the back side of the retail condominium; Kiddie Academy is on the Reade Street side.

This is a great addition to the streetscape. Wishing them luck.
