Seen & Heard: Where to get a local crookie

OLE & STEEN AT SMORGASBURG WTC
Ole & Steen, the Danish chain bakery that opened here last year, is new to the WTC Smorgasburg, and they are serving this new croissant-cookie that has taken the city (and first Paris I guess??) by storm. It’s a bit of a Frankenstein, but folks seem to love it. It’s made by slicing a croissant in half, stuffing it with cookie dough, then re-baking it. Ole & Steen have four versions exclusively for Smorgasburg WTC. (Fridays from 11a to 7p)

ST. MARK’S COMICS ON CHAMBERS?
Somehow I came across this blog post on SpliceToday that recalls St. Mark’s Comics’ Tribeca location at 150 Chambers, next to Chambers Street Wines. “My brother and I spent hours in there with our mom talking to Jeff, Alex, and Mitch from 1999 to 2003,” writes Nicky Otis Smith. “According to the owner of the store, Mitch Cutler, they were sadly on the wrong side of Chambers street after 911. The police considered everything south of that a crime scene, and so when they tried to reopen there was too much damage done to the neighborhood: thousands of people lost their jobs and were relocated. There was nobody there to sell books to.”
