May 21, 2024 Restaurant/Bar News
Forge, Marc Forgione’s new restaurant at 30 Hudson that replaces his eponymous spot on Reade, is now taking reservations for several days over the next two weeks for a soft opening. Things should open up more starting May 31.
I happened to see Marc through the window yesterday and he allowed me to look around — and it is simple, spare and warm. (The paper is off the windows as of yesterday so you can also peek in yourself.) White-washed brick, warm lighting, little vignettes mounted on the brick walls. What’s best: the absolute prime Tribeca views through the huge windows on both sides, and an excellent round banquette on the corner with Duane.
Forgione opened his restaurant on Reade and Hudson in 2007; his plans to move the operation around the corner started in July 2021. The new restaurant is similar in size (60 seats in the dining room, 24 in the bar) and the menu will stay the same. (David Bouley’s Brushstroke closed in September 2018 after seven years in the space.) Taking over the bar would make a great party.
Forgione also has Khe-Yo, around the corner; One Fifth at 1 Fifth Avenue; and Peasant in Nolita.

I remember when he wanted to name the original restaurant “Forge” but someone in FL owned the name, or something like that. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to Forge!
Nice place but wish the owner would show some respect for his neighbors and park his motorcycle lawfully (at the curb) rather than in the middle of the sidewalk. This isn’t the East Village.
