PETITE MAMAN IS OPEN
The Petite Maman in the Goldman breezeway opened today and there are free cookies… Hours are 7:30a to 5p; kitchen closes at 4p on weekends. Address is 210 Murray. Thanks to A. for the shot and J. for the intel.
SPECTRUM IS BACK OPEN!
I guess the reports of Spectrum’s death on Church and Chambers in February were greatly exaggerated. They certainly did close — they put signs up themselves — but they are now back open in the same location. Thanks to E. for the heads up.
LEELA JAMES AT RIVER & BLUES
Leela James is the headliner for Battery Park City’s River & Blues series, this Thursday, July 25. Doors open at 6:30; the DJ starts at 7, and James starts at 7:30. The R&B and soul singer-songwriter out of Los Angeles released her latest record, ‘Thought U Knew,’ in fall 2023, and she tours nationally.
PILGRIMAGES TO CHARLY GARCIA CORNER
The music blogger Alex Smith sent a note that the dedication of a corner of the neighborhood to the Argentinian rocker Charly Garcia has hosted a stream of pilgrims to the site, documented on an Instagram page with hundreds of posts. See them here. Garcia shot an album cover on that corner in 1983. “I, too, had precious little notion of how popular Charly Garcia actually was outside of New York City,” Alex wrote. “I was routinely informed by event-organizer Mariano Cabrera and filmmaker Inaki Rojas of how important the divining of this precise location had been, as people would soon be making pilgrimages from great distances to see it first-hand and pay homage…Well, almost a year later, that prediction has come through and then some.”
