Seen & Heard: Dawn of 2025

DAWN OVER BROOKLYN
Tribecan and painter Todd Stone sent a New Year’s greeting using one of his recent paintings from his studio at the World Trade Center: Dawn Over Brooklyn, 2024.

THE THREE KAFFES ON GREENWICH
A couple of readers have asked me for clarification, and this sign should sum it up. The local founder of Kaffe Landskap is no longer affiliated with the Kaffe Landskap just north of Beach; instead that location is owned by his one-time partner in two Denver stores — though it looks like its website is down. The original Kaffe on Greenwich and Murray is now Kaffe Åre, as is the brand-new location on the southeast corner of Greenwich and Beach.

LETTERPRESS WORKSHOPS AT BOWNE & CO
You know I love everything about Bowne & Co, the printers at the Seaport — they do my Christmas card every year. They are offering Print Your Own Stationery workshops on the last Saturday and Sunday of every month at noon, now scheduled through August. The workshop is three hours, and you set type from the Seaport Museum’s collection of historic fonts, mix ink, cut paper, and print a bespoke edition of 35 notecards using a 19th century printing press. Advanced registration is required. Ages 12 and up. Tickets are $100.

COMPOST YOUR XMAS TREE
The NYC Department of Sanitation now collects live Christmas trees and wreaths at the curb with Curbside Composting service, collected every week on recycling day. Remove all stands, lights, ornaments and tinsel before placing at the curb. Do not put the tree in a bag. Trees and wreaths that still have items attached cannot be composted. Live trees are collected, chipped, mixed with leaves, and turned into rich compost for NYC’s parks, institutions, and community gardens.
