OLIVE BRANCH DELI HAS CLOSED
The deli that opened in the former Zucker’s space on Chambers just west of West Broadway has closed. It’s shelves are mostly emptied. That is one less storefront on Chambers, sadly, and a dent in what I was calling the Tribeca Deli Resurgence…
ANIMATED MOVIES AT THE MUSEUM
OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN
The Museum of the American Indian will host eight creative Indigenous animated films (60 min. runtime) that offer colorful stories of magical tales, humorous encounters, and hidden histories — Feb. 10 through Feb. 21, 11a, 1p and 3p each day, at 1 Bowling Green. More info here.
SPECTRUM STORE HAS CLOSED…AGAIN
M. wrote last week to say that the Spectrum store, in the ground floor of 30 Warren with an entrance on Chambers, has closed…again. The closed last February, and then reopened in July. “I spoke with the doorman there last week, and he told me he doesn’t know anything coming into the Spectrum space. However, he told me ‘some kind of sauna’ is coming into the other commercial space right on the corner of Warren.” More soon!
MORE COOL ICE ON THE HUDSON
M. sent this awesome shot of the ice retreating off the Hudson. “Lily pads,” she called them.

Olive Branch moved across the street.
No it didn’t. That’s a different place that is nearly identical. It seemed like a bad idea to have two virtually identical stores across from each other. And it was.
Here’s an idea for this space:
A grocery store with real food (meat, fish, dairy, produce etc.)
All TriBeCa has is Whole Foods, Target & overpriced Morgan’s Market. TriBeCa would be a near supermarket desert if Whole Foods closed & an absolute food desert if all three closed.
Go for it if you think it’s a money-maker. You might find that it’s hard to make a profit selling groceries at reasonable prices in Tribeca. Or you’ll get rich.
It is really a shame that Whole Foods killed off all of our food alternatives. I end up going over to the Tin Building in the Seaport for special items (fresh fish, meat, the breads/pastries) and to Key Foods on the way home for regular stuff. I have a like/hate relationship with Whole Foods for many reasons (its monopolist owner for one).
