I’ve got very little info, but still Excited about this nugget: M. wrote over the weekend that a children’s bookstore was coming to the Warren side of Philip Williams Posters, which has for the past two decades extended through the block from Chambers. I stopped by and Philip confirmed and sent me to this website: Words on Warren, “purveyors of childhood memories.” (I have not heard back yet from an email.)
UPDATE: Jean Su Maeng replied to my email: “We are aiming to open this fall. Words on Warren will be a children’s bookstore with a thoughtfully curated adult section featuring parenting books and gifts,” she wrote. “Beyond fostering a love of reading in young readers, the shop will be a space for the community to connect. We’ll offer literacy and writing classes, book clubs, parenting talks to bring new parents together, Magic the Gathering nights for older kids, storytime, and author signings. We hope to fill the void of a neighborhood children’s bookshop for children and families.”
The wall is built (and while Philip’s shop does look different, there are still miles of treasures to sort through) but no indicators yet on the Warren side.
Also: 122 Chambers, aka 52 Warren, is a landmarked building. Read more about it here.
The new bookstore is thematically located next to Babesta, one-stop shopping for babies and kids, and The Mysterious Bookshop, another neighborhood treasure. So perfect location. As M. said, “Exciting for us parents, especially since Barnes and noble closed!”
More TK.
And just another note: any of you that read the TC Shop-Local Gift Guide at the holidays know that one of my top neighborhood activities is to sort through the magazine covers and posters at Philip Williams. If you never have had the pleasure, go and witness your blood pressure drop the minute you walk in.
So exciting! My kids love the Mysterious Bookshop and we’re looking forward to loving a new bookstore on that block!
YES! We need this! Can’t wait to share this news with PS 234 families!
