A new farmers market for Battery Park City will launch on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, and run every Sunday through Nov. 23 on River Terrace, alongside the Irish Hunger Memorial. The neighborhood once had one — but it’s been gone since 2011.
The operator is Down to Earth Markets, a New York Benefit Corporation and Certified B Corporation, which has run farmers markets in the city and Westchester since 1991 and maintains an extensive roster of regional farms and food producers. Hours will be 9a to 2p.
There will initially be 20 stands (and room for expansion) offering fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats and eggs, pickles, small batch sauces, artisan baked goods and more. The market will also operate food benefit programs, including SNAP EBT, NYC Health Bucks, NY State Fresh Connect, and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
There will also be family-friendly activities throughout the season. River Terrace will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking from Murray Street to North End Avenue from 7a to 4p on market days. There will be no impact to parking garages or building entrances.
So exciting! Looking forward to having a Sunday market in the neighborhood.
