Sneak Peek: New Indian coming to the old Goa space

Zorawar Kalra, an Indian restaurateur whose company, Massive Restaurants, has several brands and a broad reach across many genres, has taken the Goa space at 78 Leonard. Farzi should open sometime in mid-May with a renovated interior. These are renderings, though they sure look like photos!

Goa, which was the first US restaurant for the noted and prolific Canadian chef and restaurateur Hemant Bhagwani, closed last September — they were open just a year and a half and had completely gutted the former Tetsu space.

The chef at Farzi will be Gaurav Chawla, who has run the kitchen for the Farzi brand in India. Signature dishes include dal chawal arancini and avocado and raw mango chaat — Indian regional flavors with a modern twist. The Leonard Street location will also feature exclusive dishes with locally sourced ingredients.

Other Massive brands in India include Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra, Made in Punjab, and Pa Pa Ya. This is their first venture in New York City, though there are other Farzi locations in London, Toronto and Seattle.
