S. (and others!) have asked me when Meadow Lane will open: “I hope this happens, sounds like a good place to pick up dinner. I miss The Daily Grocer!”
In early March they said they would open (in the former Chanson space on Harrison and Greenwich) likely mid-May. The space has been under construction for a year, and yesterday they were doing work on the ducts on the Harrison side of the building.
Their Instagram asks followers to be patient, and a rep for the company had no details to share: “We do not have an opening date at this time. It all relies on FDNY and ConEd. When we have a firm opening date we will release it” — meaning follow them on IG if you want to know before I do.
The founder and CEO of Meadow Lane, Sammy Nussdorf — I learned all this from his TikTok videos @brokebackcontessa, tipped off by a reader — is a native New Yorker who worked in venture capital until the pandemic, when things slowed down and he got “obsessed” with floral design. He decided to pursue his passion and took work with a “celebrity” florist in LA, where he honed his own style.
Fast forward to a year ago when he decided to combine all his passions — flowers, food and New York City — under one roof. He said Meadow Lane will be a “safe space in the chaos of the city” open to all — you don’t even have to buy anything.
@brokebackcontessa A little bit about me…and a Meadow Lane update!
Recap: Their plans are to create a prepared foods market that will also stock snacks, staple items, frozen foods, etc — all in shelves and cabinets custom built in Italy (!). The floral studio will have arrangements, custom orders and weekly floral house accounts. They will use the on-site kitchen downstairs, and the website says they have a led by our Michelin-starred chef and culinary director.
“Our partnerships with local, sustainable farms will bring a variety of fresh farm produce under one roof, saving our shoppers a trip to the farmers market and connecting more small farms with the NYC customer,” the website says. “Our beverage program consists of a coffee, tea, and matcha bar, organic smoothies made to order, a menu of organic juices, and seasonal rotations of bone broth in the winter and frozen yogurt in the summer.”

I walked by just a short while ago and the doors were wide open. There is at least 2 months of construction remaining, from what I could tell. They are still drywalling and haven’t even begun to install any finishings.
Sounds expensive.
Too expensive
Bring back chanson please
