Fox Fodder Flowers, a floral design studio out of Williamsburg, where they also had a shop, has taken the small building on Vestry east of Hudson as its studio. More soon when they are set up, but in the meantime this is intended to be their office and studio; retail may be in the future. Thanks to K. for the heads-up. She noted that their work is gorgeous and I agree. (They gave away free bouquets, left on the sidewalk for neighbors, when they first arrived.)
The contemporary floral design studio was started in 2011 by Taylor Patterson, here in Manhattan — they were also once part of Canal Stret Market. They moved to BK in 2020. “Our work can be described as gestural, textured and unfussy,” they say on their website. “We do our best to minimize our environmental impact. Our focus is seasonal and we buy locally whenever possible.”
Patterson founded the company in her 20s, she told Flower magazine. “I had been struggling in my mid-20s to figure out what I wanted to do. I had been waitressing, dabbling in painting, and freelancing for a landscape designer, and then one day I got a job with a flower shop, and it was like, ‘Oh, OK. This is what I want to do.’ And here we are.”
