Barcade, the arcade-slash-bar that was originally scheduled for the Amish space on West Broadway, has soft opened in Fidi in part of the old Century 21 store on Cortlandt Street between Church and Broadway. Thanks to J. for the heads up.
They were approved in November 2023 for the liquor license here — time flies — and have 12,000 square feet, with 6500 for the front of house; there are 65 restaurant seats and a room downstairs for private events. There will be 50 seats in the restaurant, though I imagine many more among the games.
Barcade® — note the federal trademark — describes itself as “the originator of the arcade bar concept”; they opened the first location in Williamsburg in 2004 in a former metal shop on Union Avenue. This is the 10th location, with others in Chelsea, Detroit, Philly, etc.
“Yes, we really wanted that space on W. Broadway and we got pretty far into the lease negotiations but at the very end we just couldn’t settle on a few things with the landlord,” Paul Kermizian, the co-founder and CEO, said in an email. “We’re a little farther south than we first wanted to be but we’re happy with the location.”
They are open sporadically for now, in soft open mode, but expect to be open with full hours by the end of the month. By then it will be Monday to Thursday, noon to midnight; Friday and Saturday, noon to 1a; Sunday noon to 11p — with family hours between noon and 5p.
