Artnet reports that BLUM Gallery, which in 2023 had taken the space at 9 White between West Broadway and Sixth, has shuttered entirely. That means it will not open here as scheduled, and that it has closed its LA and Tokyo locations.
In 2023, Tim Blum wrote in a press release on the website that the new space would be a way to celebrate the gallery’s 30th anniversary in 2024, the “launch of a new space…to mark the beginning of the next chapter and celebrate its continued evolution.”
From Artnet: “On July 1, astonishing news broke: The powerhouse Los Angeles dealer Tim Blum was planning to close, after a three-decade run as one of the era’s defining market makers. He would shutter his gigantic home base in Culver City and his space in Tokyo. A hotly anticipated third location, in Manhattan’s Tribeca area, would not open as planned in the fall.”
For the art world this is a major saga and for us it’s another empty storefront. But it *is* a great spot for a gallery — located between two other very well established ones: Ortuzar Projects, which moved from that spot to a bigger one next door, and Luhring Augustine on the corner at Sixth.
