Nosy Neighbor: Why are there playing cards scattered on the street?
A. and I had a chat about this: she is busy assembling a full deck of cards she finds on the streets of the city. But you could do that in a day at the corner of Greenwich and Chambers. Every day the same — a new assortment of playing cards littered on the sidewalk.
However, I do not have the answer! So this is more of a crowd-sourcing post. Anyone have a clue??
I did email the student newspaper at Stuy — The Spectator — in case they have a guess. Awaiting word.

Nothing to add except I am so glad you are asking because it has regularly perplexed me how they keep getting there!
There were even more here this morning! I’m convinced there’s a secret underground card club that meets exclusively on this corner and they’re terrible at cleanup. Very low-key invested in solving this very niche urban mystery.
Perhaps a magician who has not yet mastered card tricks…

Walked past the man responsible for the cards this morning at 7am!! He was slinging the cards from the park corner… motive was unclear.
I observed the same occurrence and mentioned it to my wife, as we were both quite puzzled. Shortly before 7:00 a.m. this morning, we saw a man standing on the northwest corner of Chambers and Greenwich, methodically flinging playing cards across the street one by one.

No its a homeless lady that steals the cards from local business lots for less in chambers. She sleeps in the staircase at 27 Warren along with a few others. The City agencies do nothing , the locals that live here are just as worse leaving dog poop along the sidewalks in Tribeca. Between the locals & homeless Maintenance crews along these streets ,grin & bear this problem everyday with no end in site. Smoking weed with no compliance to the smoke free clean air act in front of luxury condos ZERO Enforcementfrom city agencies, dog poop & homeless people and drug abusers and drug dealing is rampant with no hope in site. This is everyday. Call 311 ??? Nothing gets done

I know both the motive and the story behind it, but I don’t feel it’s my place to reveal what it is. What I will say for sure, though, is that it’s 1000000% not the homeless lady. Stop spreading fake news and blaming the homeless and, somehow, ….also the dogs; you, and “Lot Less”, really have no idea about this one.
I prefer the unclear motives of a man methodically slinging cards across the street version better.
It’s actually a man who throws them at cards and people usually on Greenwich. Seen him multiple time chucking cards.
We have actually seen the man throwing cards at people at the corner of Greenwich and Chambers, and also perched on the pavilion at Everett Hunt Field. He gets quite a bit of momentum on them. We asked him why he was throwing cards and he stared back at us with a defiant grin. We would have found the whole thing quite amusing were it not for the risk to our wee dog. For this reason we have dubbed him the “Ace of A-holes”
