Zohran Mamdani was elected the next mayor of New York City tonight, in a race called by the AP at around 9:30p with 75 percent of the vote in and no other path to victory for other candidates.
Doing the math on our nine election districts in Tribeca — from Vesey to Canal, West Street to Centre/Broadway — former governor Andrew Cuomo took 57 percent of the vote (with 97 percent of the votes reported). Mamdani took 34 percent. Some EDs voted as much as 71 percent for Cuomo. (See The Times interactive here.)
That puts Tribeca in the same group as the far side of Staten Island, Kew Gardens, South Williamsburg, parts of the Upper East Side and Coney Island.
No suprise there. Tribeca is a neighborhood packed with conservatives and centrists.
