Sushi of Gari building has been sold

The former Sushi of Gari building — 130 West Broadway, aka 53 Duane — has been sold by ASG Equities, the family office of the Gindis who own Century 21 and many buildings in the neighborhood. The corner two-story building is a 25-foot square. Sushi of Gari closed in 2024 after 12 years on the corner. Bouley Studio was there before that.

I can’t tell who has bought it, though I did hear through the grapevine that it is the owners of Marinara Pizza, a local chain with six other locations in the city. Will try to pursue that one.

The Gindis own a lot of buildings in the neighborhood, though I haven’t tracked them all. (Raymond Gindi signed the deed for 130 West Broadway.) The Yves/Smith & Mills building recently changed hands; they sold 111 Reade, with Little More in the ground floor, in May; I think they still own 22 Cortlandt, where Century 21 is again after declaring bankruptcy in 2020.

  1. The LLC and deed information point to Gabriel Weiser of Roslyn, NY, who is one of the owners of Marinara Pizza.

“Growing up, Gabe Weiser played pretend store-owner and set up shop with neighborhood lemonade stands, an entrepreneur from day one. Now, at 35 years old, Weiser is the owner of seven Marinara Pizza locations, including the newest one in Roslyn.

“In the same way that Weiser believed New York City needed some new life among its pizzerias, he thought the same thing about Roslyn. A Roslyn resident himself, Weiser noticed an empty storefront across from his neighborhood on his drives into work every day and decided that Roslyn would be home to the next Marinara Pizza. It turns out it was a good decision, as Weiser says business is booming.

” ‘For Roslyn, we wanted to make [the restaurant] the biggest. The best,’ said Weiser. ‘This store is the flagship, and the biggest and best one, and I feel that the community feels the same way.’ “
