A new pizza (sort of!) joint coming to the Saluggi’s space

Great news for the top of the district: a tenant called Pizza Twist — a franchised Indian fusion pizza shop — has taken the Saluggi’s space at 325 Church between Lispenard and Canal. Thanks to J. for spotting the IG post from the sales team. Let’s hope they can take on some of the dealers on that corner at Canal.

Saluggi’s closed in January 2023, after about 15 years on the site. (They are still operating on Grand and Clinton — and I think they were owned by the folks at Nancy Whiskey.)

While the building next door — the former Westside Coffee Shop, the Dominican lunch staple that has been at the corner of Lispenard and Church for 35 years until it closed a year ago — is slated for demolition for a new building, 325 is protected as part of the Tribeca East Historic District. The building sold in June 2024 for $1 million.

Pizza Twist was founded by Harpreet Dahyia in Sacramento in 2014 and is now a franchise that now has more than 40 locations in California and spots in another 18 states. The three in New York (so far!) are in Queens and Long Island. There’s options like the shahi paneer naan pizza — naan with butter sauce, spiced paneer and cilantro — or the chilli corn pizza, with Manchurian sauce and cheese. They have recently expanded to Canada and — hard to picture — Bali.

  1. Unless the new business owners are ex-military, probably not a great idea to take on the dealers . . .
