A few folks sent me the reports from the Citizen app, and I confirmed with the NYPD: On Tuesday, January 6, at approximately 8 p.m. in front of 291 Broadway, a 44-year-old woman was sitting inside a 2026 Audi Q7 when three unknown men approached her vehicle and removed her.
The individuals fled the location in an unknown direction. (I am assuming for now that they fled in the car, but the NYPD press office was not clear.) No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. And there was no mention of guns from the NYPD.
There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Just a block from city hall!!! Thank you for reporting this – and (NOT) surprised that other news media hasn’t picked this up.
That’s crazy! I hope she was unharmed / is ok as she can be!
Downtown Dance Factory (DDF) informed parents yesterday about this incident. It was a mom waiting outside of the building to pick up her child/dancer. That area and building in particular has a lot of safety concerns. Last month a homeless man OD’d in front of the door, parents and kids were side-stepping him. It’s a building with lots of children’s activities, inflictions pre-school. And a block from city hall.
They fled in the opposite direction on Greenwich made a left on Harrison and went on West Side Hwy. I was coming back from dinner with my family and they almost ran into us. We were on Harrison making a right turn on Greenwich and when I saw them I veered to the right to avoid them. I told my family right away that they just stole the car. Police was around, but chased them in the wrong direction.
