There was a line at Whole Foods self-check out yesterday at lunch that stretched past the prepared foods section and I thought hunh, I guess I am never here right at lunch hour. It seemed like most folks were just holding their lunch. And then H. sent the photos above from last night.
The photographer Max Guliani (who has captured some amazing shots of the neighborhood) caught a crazy line at Trader Joe’s on his Instagram, and was kind enough to send me the photo below from the Soho location.
Nutty! And of course sadly evocative of March 2020…
Hmm,.. reminds me of Covid days but at least there is Toilet paper!
In Whole Foods today, not only was there an incredibly long line to check out at the self check-out registers, but there was no one at all working at any of the numerous clerk-assisted cash registers!
This is kind of hilarious considering that everything will be fine and accessible by Monday night.
This is transplant behavior. Real NYers would have stayed home on Sunday (as usual) and just bought snacks maybe some liquar and enough for a dinner for 1-2 nights. If that was the case why so many people out on Sunday enjoying the snow. I blame lame media outlets for inciting fear mongering. We’ll be alright Monday afternoon. If not Tuesday everybody to work.
Whole Foods is poorly stocked even when the weather is good. It is hit or miss on even the most basic items and produce if you happen to go at the wrong time.
So funny, I took almost identical photos at WF on Saturday! The cupboards were literally bare, and there was a panicky vibe. I was looking for a couple produce items for a recipe I wanted to make and walked up to Morgan’s. Voilà — they had everything I had been looking for! Yay Morgan’s!
