I still struggle with the name, but I can happily endorse the lunch at the new Honeybrains on Church and Warren that opened in December. The local chain now has five locations total and opened the Upper West Side just after ours. The first, in Noho, opened in 2016.
The concept is bowls and sandwiches, all made with brain-healthy foods like legumes and foods high in Omega fats, plus healthful garnishes such as fermented foods and raw sweeteners from nature.
We ordered the “perfect egg sandwich,” ($10) which includes one over-easy egg, a jalapeño-spinach sauce, chopped tomato, chopped turkey bacon and cheese — all on their sourdough brioche roll, which is excellent. However, it needs way more egg to make it work with the bread ratio. I would order with two or even three.
And we got the blackened salmon ($16.75) with celery root mash, spinach and garlic — all sprinkled with toasted pepitas. Excellent and served very hot. They also have coffees and signature drinks like the lavender lemonade.
Honeybrains was founded by Marisa Seifan, a “lifelong food lover with deep roots in both hospitality and science,” according to the website. Her brother once practiced as a neurologist and at one point had a role in the business.

I looooove Honeybrains. A great addition to the neighborhood! I chatted with the staff, and they haven’t seen a lot of business since opening. Hoping it sticks around…
