Ilya’s, aka Leo’s, has opened on Worth and Broadway

Ilya Ilyayev, whose customers know him as Leo, has a new permanent home at 90 Worth, just west of Broadway on the southside next to Subway. His colleague Irina will also join him there. They offer men’s, women’s and kids’ cuts. Book by calling 212-431-3984.

Ilya was on the corner of Lispenard and Church for 24 years and closed his shop in October 2024 — it took this long to find a new space that he could afford. (The little taxpayer building was cleared out to make room for new condo construction. More on that soon.)

Ilya bought the original business from another barber, George, and before that, he said, it was owned by three Italian brothers — we are now going back more than 60 years. (D. got that great shot below, and confirmed the space had been a barber for as long as he’s been here — 46 years.) Westside Coffee Shop, which has been next door for 35 years, also closed.

  1. That sign is iconic – hope someone was able to save it.
