Apollo Bagels is getting closer…

Apollo Bagels, which has taken the former Kings space on Reade and Hudson, basically in Bogardus Plaza, is getting closer — though no exact date yet for opening. The local chain has six other locations in the city and one in Hoboken.

The folks there said TBD; back in January, they had hoped for an early March opening.

N. said she got a peek inside last week and there was a lot of equipment and the sheetrock looked pretty much done.

We are still waiting on Modern Bagels, which, when last I asked in late February, said they were waiting on permits. PopUp has lines out the door. And in other carb news, Marinara Pizza just took over the corner on Duane and West Broadway and Jay’s on Chambers opened in March. More details on all the breads, flat or otherwise, here.

  1. Bagel stores are the new nail salons. Multiple shops selling the same product – why?

    • I think the bagel place is replacing Starbucks and other coffee chains as a place to grab coffee and a quality bagel to go or to sit with friends, especially for young people (who don’t have to worry about those big carb counts, like I do!). These places (for now) feel a little less corporate and the Tik Tok trendiness is probably fun (for some) as well. That’s my hypothesis.

      • Seeing as Starbucks and other chains tried and failed to replace the bagel place, that is a reasonable hypothesis.
