Seen & Heard: Ladybug Day in Washington Market Park

LADYBUG DAY + IT’S MY PARK DAY IN WMP
The Friends of Washington Market Park will host its annual Ladybug Day and It’s My Park Day on Saturday, May 9, from 10:30a to noon. Volunteers will be releasing thousands of ladybugs, planting colorful annuals in the garden and collecting microlitter throughout the park. More info here.

SEAPORT X PHOTOVILLE
Australian conservationist and photographer Jon McCormack has an outdoor show up at the Seaport titled “Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art,” part of Photoville, the citywide photography festival. McCormack’s images have appeared in TIME, Nat Geo, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and more. The show spans a decade of environmental photography across five continents, from microscopic mineral formations to sweeping aerial views of rivers and coastlines.

N. sent along this cute vid of Quentin, a barista at Olive’s on Greenwich. “Olive’s is the only coffeeshop in Tribeca that provides this kind of entertainment!” N. wrote.

CREATIVE DOWNTOWN AT SCHOELKOPF GALLERY
Schoelkopf Gallery on Broadway and Walker will show “New York Painting Circa 1960: Works From the Collection of Robert A. Ellison Jr.,” which reconstructs the creative ecosystem of downtown Manhattan at a pivotal moment in American art. The show brings together paintings and works on paper by 14 artists (including Ellison) working in a period defined by abstraction and experiment.
