Thanks to N. for seeing the sign: FedEx is opening a new store in the former Amish Market space, the southern half at the corner of Park Place and West Broadway — aka 44 West Broadway.
The FedEx press office told me that the new facility will replace the location at 6 Barclay and maintain its mix of full and part-time team members. It is 2000+ square feet and will have printing, packing and shipping services.
A reader sent a note saying there seems to be new activity in 50 Murray’s ground floor at the corner of Murray as well. Back in 2023, Barcade was aiming to take the space, but they opened instead in Fidi in part of the old Century 21. Amish closed permanently in September 2020.
I am pretty sure the orange window coverings on the Murray corner is just advertising for Airwallex: that is a financial technology company founded in 2015 in Melbourne, Australia, with offices in Union Square.
FedEx has full-service locations on Barclay and Church, Worth and Broadway, and William and John, plus a few more in Fidi.
Aw – that’s sad.
