Nosy Neighbor: Who has added these sculptures to Tribeca Park?

I do not have the answer! Hoping someone here does.

Four years ago, similar miniature busts started appearing in Bogardus Plaza. And in 2023 I could not solicit an answer from the crowd with a Nosy Neighbor post. I checked with Bogardus Plaza and they also do not have a name, but say it’s a woman who deposits them there.

Anyone?

UPDATE!! Morgan Gamblin, the volunteer coordinator for Friends of Tribeca Park, said the tiny terracotta heads were made by artist Renae Despointes, a friend of the park.

“She shared with longtime gardener Julie Matsumoto that they were created for the children who wander through the garden to explore and discover little surprises,” Morgan said. “She simply wanted to make their world a bit more magical and interesting.”

  1. Hello all!!!
I actually know the answer to this one 😊
The tiny terracotta heads were made by artist Renae Despointes, a lovely friend of the park. She shared with longtime gardener Julie Matsumoto that they were created for the children who wander through the garden to explore and discover little surprises. She simply wanted to make their world a bit more magical and interesting.

And if anyone is feeling inspired to help care for the park and keep the magic going, we’re hosting our first community gardening day this Sunday, May 17 at 10:30am!!! all are welcome 🌿
