SUMMER SCHEDULE SET FOR GOVERNORS
Governors Island has announced its early summer events below, with more to be announced throughout the season, and here’s a sample: May 30 & 31: Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix; June 13 & 14: Jazz Age Lawn Party; June 20: Porch Stomp folk music festival; July 4: Sail4th 250 Grand Review of Tall Ships at Governors Island; July 25: Jazz by the Water. DDF FOUNDER HONORED BY AUSTRALIAN THEATRE FESTIVAL
Downtown Dance Factory co-founder and artistic director Hanne Larsen was among three honorees at this year’s gala of the Australian Theatre Festival, which showcases Australian stories and artists in NYC. She was honored along with Carmel Dean, a Grammy-nominated musician from Perth, and Broadway leading man Ainsley Melham. DDF alum Charles Head, now in his second year at Julliard, performed at the gala in Hanne’s honor.
FIRE IN MACAO TRADING COMPANY BUILDING
M. sent this photo and a note asking what caused a fire Tuesday night in the Macao Trading Company building. The FDNY sent the report: a fire that broke out at 311 Church between Walker and Lispenard on Tuesday, May 12. The call came in at 8:25pm with a report of a fire in the HVAC system on the roof of the five-story building. It was under control a half hour later with no injuries. 21 units with 79 FDNY and EMS personnel responded to the scene. The cause is under investigation.
