DELIVERISTA HUB AND SPEED CONTRACTING
Worth reading the comments in this Times story on the deliverista hub the city built for delivery workers on Broadway and Murray just outside City Hall. The story is mostly how the city managed to build it quickly, but the comments are about why it exists in the first place.
ILLEGAL TAX BREAKS AT INDEPENDENCE PLAZA
In trolling through Yimby’s story on the supertall proposed for Greenwich and Jay at Independence plaza, I saw a reference to this Times story from 2009, when it was revealed that Laurence Gluck of Stellar Management received tax breaks for nearly two years after exiting the Mitchell-Lama program in 2004. From The Times: “According to a lawyer for Mr. Gluck, who bought the complex in 2003 for a reported $156 million and pays $8 million a year in property taxes, the relatively tiny savings were unbeknownst to Mr. Gluck as well. But after one of Mr. Gluck’s 1,300 tenants noticed the tax breaks and questions arose about whether the tax benefits required that the apartments become rent-stabilized, the city allowed Mr. Gluck to repay the amount and retroactively declared that he had never received them.”
TURKEY WEEK AT YIMBY
The 60-story residential skyscraper at 161 Maiden Lane that has been mothballed for years got a mention in Yimby’s Turkey Week list. From Yimby: “Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Fortis Property Group, the 670-foot-tall tower was planned to span 200,000 square feet and yield 80 condominium units…The incomplete skyscraper has now stood unchanged for more than five years, its progress derailed by the 2019 revelation that the reinforced concrete superstructure is leaning 3 inches to the north.”
BPCA TAKES CONDO TO COURT
amNY reports that The Battery Park City Authority took Cove Club Condominium to court as part of its resiliency construction project, “arguing that if a judge doesn’t grant it access to the condo so it can conduct necessary protection work as it prepares for construction on the northwest portion of its climate resiliency project, it won’t be able to install critical flood walls and underground drainage structures.”
Re: deliverista hub…built fast? Walked by 2days ago and it’s still not open. And I echo the question of why and why there?
