H. sent word: L&O Frame, the framers on Duane that have been in that spot for 40 (!) years will close in July. Owner Larry Levinson had a note taped to the door. It’s a real loss for the neighborhood.
“It is with bittersweet sentiments that after 40 years in the framing industry and on Duane Street we will be closing our store in July,” he and Gabby wrote. “We will be starting the next phase of our life — retirement. We apologize in advance but we can no longer new orders from now till closing.
“Thank you for trusting us with all your framing needs!! We have had the most loyal and kind customers, which we have been very grateful for and appreciative of. We will miss each and every one of you immensely!”
Larry framed some of my very favorites, including a winner that my daughter painted 16 years ago. Here’s a list of other local framers that I ran with the shopping guide in 2022:
Gill & Lagodich
Fine period framing with antique frames and reproductions
Steven Amedee
Custom picture framing and design services
GK Framing
Fine art framing + Reflectel mirrors that hide TVs
Trilogy Photo
Custom framing services and ready-made frames.
ROOQ Tribeca
Custom framing, including same-day services
Terrible news!!!!!! Larry’s work was outstanding :(
Heartbroken. Larry is such a caring, kind, reliable human being. I
He framed everything for me. I will miss him a lot and wish him the very best in his next chapter.
I’ve known and been a customer of Larry & Co. for forty years and not having him — so helpful, so affable — around the corner to do framing and make mats and cut glass is a huge loss to me and I am sure to many others. But cheers to him and Gabby in their retirement, they deserve every possible bit of good luck. They were an important part of our neighborhood, once upon a time chiefly known for its artists, for so very long —
Amen to that! I’ve been a customer of Larry (L&O) since 2019, when my upstairs neighbor, an art dealer with a great eye, sent me to him to frame a found object I had stumbled upon, connected to jazz legend John Coltrane. Larry rendered it beautifully … perfectly … bringing out the meaning within. Since then, another 8 or 9 pieces. The modest wait to collect the finished work, typically a week or two, was always filled with pleasant anticipation. And such a pleasure to be in Larry’s presence and feel his intelligence and good will. I’m grateful to him (and to my neighbor!) that I got to know and employ him. So skilled, so lovely.
Larry & Gabbie are the best. Sad to see them go but happy for them in retirement
So sad to hear! L&O was the best … so professional, so kind, so talented. Will miss them a lot.
I love Larry! He framed all of my work for my art shows with such care and we had such a great time working together. I’ll miss working with him so much! But congratulations on retirement, Larry!!! Wishing you and Gabby the best.
