Seen & Heard: Piano stationed in Washington Market Park

SING FOR HOPE PIANO IN WASHINGTON MARKET PARK
Sing for Hope, which places piano in city parks and streets for spontaneous music-making, has stationed an upright piano in Washington Market Park through Sunday, June 7. (There’s also one in Castle Clinton in The Battery.) City artists paint the pianos, which are actually stored at 28 Liberty. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Sing for Hope; so far 750 pianos have been deployed, eventually going to forever homes in schools and hospitals.

SHINKAI DOJO MOVES TO JOHN STREET
Shinkai Dojo, the independent martial arts school serving Downtown families, has moved into its own dedicated space at 111 John Street, suite 545. (They were on Fulton.) The school’s curriculum is rooted in traditional Japanese karate; students train in kihon, kata, kumite and practical self-defense with clear structure and progression. Find them here.

BROOKLYN CRAFT COMPANY POP-UP
As part of the Downtown Alliance’s free rent program for summer, the Brooklyn Craft Company, a maker space, is taking the corner retail spot on Broadway and Barclay — the only one of the spaces in Tribeca. The company is a modern craft supply shop and DIY workshop space that stocks supplies such as yarn, fabric, notions, kits, crafty gifts and more. There will also be drop-in crafting opportunities. Their actual shop is in Greenpoint.

“BEHIND THE LINES” AT THE 9/11 MUSEUM
The 9/11 Museum will present “Behind the Lines: A 9/11 Story” on Wednesday, June 10, at 6p. The performance will be led by internationally acclaimed trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, and will feature retired FDNY firefighter Bill Spade and U.S. military veteran Jaymes Poling. Set against the tragedy of the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Spade and Poling relive their experiences, revealing a powerful, shared bond of strength, meaning, and the human capacity to endure.
