Where to watch the World Cup in the neighborhood

Unless you live under a rock, you know now that the FIFA Men’s World Cup is in the Americas for five weeks this summer, with some matches playing in what they are calling New York New Jersey Stadium — a rebranded version of MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The first match is on Thursday, June 11, in Mexico; the final, on Sunday, July 19, will take place in New Jersey. The US’s first match is Friday, June 12, in LA. (That’s the first shot of the team, taken last week at Pier 17.)

The city has tried to make some accommodations for the crowds; only time will tell if they work!

Here’s how to watch outside:

Wagner Park | June 12
The BPCA will host several FIFA World Cup watch parties over the course of the tournament, with the first on June 12 at the new Wagner Park for USA vs. Paraguay. The kick-off event will include a family-friendly tailgate party and an electrifying performance by the Queer Big Apple Corps Marching Band. More info here.

The Battery | July 5-19
From July 5-19, BPCA and the Battery Conservancy will co-host in The Battery starting with Round of 16 through the Final on a big screen. There will also be games, music, and all-ages activities.

NYC PAC | Perelman PAC | June 12-July 19
PAC NYC will host viewings on the Dalio Terrace — which you enter through Marcus Samuelsson’s restaurant, Metropolis — for select matches starting June 12 and running through the final. But you do have to buy at least one drink. They will cancel for rain. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to match kickoff. See the schedule here.

I can’t see anyone around here heading to Midtown, but just in case:

Rockefeller Center | July 5-19
The FIFA World Cup 26 NYNJ Host Committee, Telemundo and Rockefeller Center will host the official NYNJ World Cup 26 & Telemundo Fan Village at Rockefeller Center from July 5-19. From the rendering they have on the site, it looks like the skating rink will be converted into a turf field for fans. Learn more here.
