RECYCLING EVENT ON GREENWICH AND DUANE
The Lower East Side Ecology Center will host a recycling event on Greenwich and Duane outside Washington Market Park on Sunday, June 14, from 10a to 2p. It’s a free collection of unwanted electronics and textiles, and paper shredding services. Electronics include computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, handheld devices, TVs and all peripherals that plug into either a TV or computer. (Not accepted: air conditioners, appliances and batteries.) Textiles need to be clean and dry; clothing, shoes, towels, hats, bags, gloves, linens, bedding and curtains are accepted. Paper shredding is for documents that contain sensitive information, and paper will be shredded on site by a truck.
BEST RESTAURANTS FROM A (FORMER) LOCAL
The chief restaurant critic at New York Magazine, Matthew Schneier, calls Tribeca his “ancestral home,” so he has made his own list of his faves in the neighborhood. “This is not a list of the hot new places,” he writes. “There are plenty of new and newish restaurants in Tribeca worth your time — homey Eulalie is my favorite from the past few years, as out-of-time as the neighborhood itself — but these are the places I return to over and over again, many of them happy veterans of the burg.” The list: Farra, Walker’s, Takahachi, Square Diner, The Odeon and Chambers.
MAYOR GIVES BMCC COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS
Mayor Mamdani gave the commencement address for the graduates of BMCC — though it took place at Barclays. From the transcript: “Today’s graduating class is made up of more than 2,000 New Yorkers. That is 2,000 people whose paths have zigged and zagged but still led right here, to this moment. Together, you represent more than 110 countries and speak 28 languages. More than half of today’s graduates are the first in their family to go beyond a high school diploma. And 14 percent of this graduating class attended school while caring for children.”
ALO OPENS JUNE 5
J. caught the sign: Alo was scheduled open in Brookfield Place today. Did not go by, but I am sure they are ready for business.

I’m shocked Petrarca never makes any of these lists. Definitely one of my neighborhood staples.
