Tribecan Theo Schefer and I each took a few laps of the neighborhood tonight and caught the preparations for what just about everyone is saying will be the biggest parade in the city’s history. The NYPD is estimating attendance at more than 1 million — maybe several? — a number that exceeds Lower Manhattan’s capacity, whatever that means.
It’s already a vibe out there, with folks getting in position now for a 6a official start. Even the Museum of the American Indian and the PAC NYC got into the spirit.
Police barricades are lined up to create pens at each of 23 access points along the parade route. (Spectators will be turned away once the pens are full.) Mailboxes are padlocked; Citi Bike docks are emptied; the Woolworth Building is boarded up; trash cans are painted orange and blue.
Should be fun? See the logistics here.
Good luck to all!
Hi Pam
I’m so enjoying all the photos you shot of the celebration!
You really captured the “ local” vibe before and after.
A real plus for our neighborhood
Love the photo of the policeman and the Knick fans
