Seen & Heard: July 4th parade in Fidi

INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE
The Lower Manhattan Historical Association will host its 11th Annual Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4, starting at 11:45a with a flag raising and cannon salute at Castle Clinton National Memorial in The Battery. There will then be a parade through historic lower Manhattan ending with an open house at Fraunces Tavern. The celebration of Independence Day has been a long standing tradition in Lower Manhattan from the very first days of the Revolution, and especially following the British military’s evacuation in 1783. APOLLO BAGELS OPENS TODAY
Apollo Bagels, which has taken the Kings Pharmacy space on Bogardus Plaza, will open today. This is their seventh location in the city; and Industry City just opened.

FOR THE ASP PEEPS…
The City Council undid a law passed in 2011 that prohibited the Department of Sanitation from using stickers as part of enforcement for alternate-side parking violations. Now DSNY can place stickers up to 8.5 x 11 inches on the window of any motor vehicle that violates alternate-side parking rules. And wait, there’s more. There is a state measure that has passed the Senate so far that would permit cameras installed on street sweepers so they could collect images that could then be used to issue parking tickets.

AMERICA 250: MOVING TOGETHER
Battery Dance will present a one-night-only performance on July 25 at Wagner Park marking the U.S. semi-quincentennial. With the backdrop of the Statue of Liberty, the evening will reflect on 250 years of American history and identity through the expressive power of dance. 7p, with a rain date of July 26.

  1. Great news re: ASP stickers and cameras. Too many people eat the tickets as the cost of parking.
