Crowd Sourcing: A pizza taste-test on a Tribeca rooftop
The neighbors at 16 Hudson hosted a pizza taste-test on their rooftop earlier this summer — partly to enjoy each other’s company, and partly to get a handle on the booming carb business in the neighborhood. Folks signed up to bring their favorite pie — and to even the playing field, everyone was asked to bring plain cheese.
There were 10 pizza joints represented; pizzas were sliced into 16ths for best sampling.

Tre Sorelle on Reade
Little Italy on Church
Little Italy on Fulton
Marinara Pizza on West Broadway
Lucia on Canal
Song’ E Napule on Houston
Rubirosa (on Mulberry and Spring)
There were some concerns that the pizza would be cold by the time a taster made the rounds, but a hearty debate ensued about the value of next-day pizza for breakfast.
And after a round of tasting, voting ensued. The results:
BEST OVERALL: three-way tie between Gigino, Lucia and Little Italy Fulton
BEST APPEARANCE: Marinara
BEST TASTE: two-way tie Rubirosa and Gigino
BEST CRUST: Little Italy Fulton
BEST CHEESE/SAUCE RATIO: Jay’s
BEST BITE: Little Italy Fulton
Next rooftop food contest for 16 Hudson? A taste-off for the Most Interesting Pizza. Should be good.

Love Gigino but Il Mattone for the win!
Big miss overlooking Gran Morsi. Great pizza, would’ve been a contender.

Sounds like a good time and the intel is always great to share. Not sure if LTD was a contender, but that is my local favorite.
My family loves assorted personal pies from Tre Sorelle when we order.
Absolutely love Little Italy, everyone looks at me strange when I say it’s the best in Fidi but then I find out they never tried it. It’s so good!
I feel like any competition that omits Joe’s on Fulton is a bit rigged. But good choices all around.
Jay’s and Marinara have been excellent additions to the neighborhood. Marina also has outstanding salads and chicken parm, so highly recommend them for food in addition to the pizza.
Since we have a few pizza spots there outside of Tribeca, here are a few other excellent ones that deliver to the area:
– Rosella’s (William Street): great regular cheese pies
– Lombardi’s (Spring St): amazing, old school margarita style pies
– Prince Street Pizza: place always has a line, but the pizza justifies it
Special call out to the *other* Little Italy Pizza on Park Place. It has an outstanding chicken parm slice, so good that I would make a trip there just for that.
