We knew that the noted Japanese chef Satoru Tanaka had taken the Sushi Azabu space on Greenwich and Laight, and now I am tuning in to the bar upstairs: an outpost of Tokyo’s Land Bar Artisan. When the restaurant came before CB1 last summer they were very mysterious, but M. caught a reference to Tribeca somewhere and a google got me to this post and a shot of 428 Greenwich, and another reader sent this recent trend story from The Post, on the Japanese takeover of NYC bars.

The bar, on the ground floor, will be run by Daisuke Ito — a favorite of billionaires who fly in just for his martinis, The Post said. (Having been to Tokyo for the first time recently, the hidden 10-seater, speakeasy-style bar is a thing. And they don’t rush you. I can only guess that the rents are not Tribeca-sized.) Jeff Bezos is a regular and has flown the mixologist in for his own parties.

The Post said they will have 40 seats? I am not sure how they wrangle that out of the space unless there’s a back room I didn’t know about — the images below are from Sankaku, the sake bar that opened there in 2019, and the renderings are from the folks who represented the restaurant at the CB1 meeting originally.
