An excellent addition to the Tribeca Design District: Audo House New York, which was camped out in a second floor space on North Moore for five years has taken a sunny spot on Laight between Hudson and Greenwich as of April.

This is their first ground floor spot in the US — and their first Audo House out of Scandinavia — and I say it that way since it is not really retail, and this is not their first showroom. At one point they even had a decorated apartment that their showroom manager also lived in. But it was time.

“We felt we needed to be more available and outward facing,” said David McNamara, managing director for the Americas, when I stopped by in May. The space was designed by Norm Architects and styled by Colin King with work by Portland-based artist Benjamin Ewing.

Audo is a third-gen business out of Copenhagen — originally known as Menu and founded in Denmark in the 1970s by the grandfather of the current designer and brand director, Joachim Kornbek Engell-Hansen. It was acquired in 2022 by Flos B&B Italia Group, which includes B&B Italia, Flos, Louis Poulsen, Arclinea, Maxalto, Azucena, FENDI Casa and Lumens.

All the furniture and lighting in the showroom are Audo products; there are some collabs as well such as speakers they have designed with Bang & Olufsen. The aesthetic philosophy is “soft minimalism” — clean lines, earth tones and natural materials. Cash and carry items include lighting, accessories and a collection of rare art and design books.

In Copenhagen, Audo House is a five-story residence, restaurant, concept shop and workspace conceived by Engell-Hansen’s father. And while ours is not quite a that, there’s coffee if you swing by and plans in the works for talks, exhibits and gatherings.
