Shahla Karimi, the jeweler who has taken the A Uno / Baby Cottons space on that prominent Tribeca corner of West Broadway and Duane, is aiming for a holiday 2026 opening. I had a brief exchange on email with her and her team:
“We are a woman-owned and led fine jewelry brand, and we’re incredibly excited to become part of the neighborhood,” her team wrote.
“I love that so much of the block is woman-owned businesses!” Shahla wrote. If we go north and south of the corner plus a bit east, she’s talking about Glowbar, Onda, Balloon Saloon, Musaafer (a married couple, actually), Spiral (x,y,z), The Odeon, Madison Reed — what am I missing?
Shahla’s eponymous fine jewelry brand was founded initially as a hobby on Etsy in 2008. She launched formally in 2014 out of Kentucky. They currently take appointments only out of their showroom on Broadway and Houston.
The details for the space aren’t finalized yet — they are in a historic district — but the store is being designed by Wiskup Projects, led by Evan Wiskup. “Evan started as a client nearly five years ago when we made his engagement ring,” Shahla said, “and he later designed our Wiskup X Shahla collection.”
The space will have a series of vaulted ceilings, a minimalist tribute to Persian architecture, with a design studio connected to the store and vitrines built into the architecture. “Our jewelry has always been inspired by architecture,” she added, “and here it literally becomes part of the building. The collection and the space complete each other.”
When they open, they will have a new capsule collection celebrating sacred spaces, including the Oculus as well as nods to Toyo Ito’s Tama Art University Library and Kengo Kuma’s portico at Angers Cathedral. The opening show will also feature past designs honoring Tadao Ando’s Church of the Light (the Ando Bombe ring) and the Azadi Tower in Tehran (necklace and earrings).
Shahla has worked in product strategy and merchandising for Celine, Versace, Prada and Stella McCartney and produced apparel collections for Vogue and the CFDA, and served as director of merchandising for Barack Obama’s re-election campaign. She is Kentucky bred and Manhattan based.
More when they are ready to open.
