Friedmans and Suram will open soon on Greenwich & North Moore

Friedmans and its Japanese concept, Suram, are getting ready to open — Suram perhaps as early as next week, August 13 — at 378 Greenwich at North Moore. Friedmans will be open somewhere between August 25 and September 3. Thanks to E. for the shots.

Friedmans took the former Caliza restaurant in Independence Plaza last July, and was always planning to have two concepts in the space. The corner will be the Friedmans we know from the Goldman breezeway and the spot next door will be Suram Sushi + Ramen, which serves sushi, ramen and udon.

Co-owner Jonah Phillips (his family owns Friedmans) said the space made more sense operationally for Suram than for their original Italian concept in that spot, Casa Louie.

The first Suram opened in 2023 on 60th and West End Avenue; they now have three locations in Manhattan along with a private events spaces in Hudson Yards and Herald Square.

Phillips’ family opened the first Friedmans in 2009 in the Chelsea Market. That menu was designed to be a gluten-free safe haven, since Phillips’ sister has celiac disease. The company has developed its own flours for pancakes, waffles and fried chicken — and now pizza and pasta for its Casa Louie locations.

More soon when they open.
