New Kid on the Block: Amare Pilates

A new Pilates studio has opened in the classic 19th Century Gibbes building on West Broadway between Warren and Murray: Amare Pilates. It’s a fourth floor walk or ride up — and owner (and Tribecan) Marina Enright has completely transformed the former storage room for T. Edward Wine into a tranquil, light-filled studio.

Marina has been working out herself on a Reformer since middle school in Michigan; she grew up taking ballet and then high school athletics — tennis and golf — and took over.

She first started teaching her friends just for fun — “Pilates was my saving grace in covid” — and then five years ago, as a senior at NYU, received her certification from New York Pilates, seeing private clients in their homes. When she moved to Tribeca in 2023, she worked in marketing and taught at Brooks Pilates in Chelsea before deciding to go off on her own and offer sessions in her building’s gym on Leonard. She also built a following through her weekly classes at Casa Cipriani.

As her business grew, she knew she had to get her own space. She signed the lease on West Broadway in February and opened at the start of June. Marina teaches 90 percent of the classes with a couple of instructors helping her out. (She doesn’t want to give up her Friday class at Casa Cipriani, and she still makes house calls.) A single, 50-minute class is $70, though there are 5- and 10-packs and an intro offer on the first two.

The studio has just five reformers, and offers private sessions and traditional group classes. She will build out the schedule eventually, but is keeping it light for now.

“I always wanted a small intimate space — not massive group classes,” Marina said. “We wanted it to look calming and quaint and like a breath of fresh air.”
