Matchaful opens today on Greenwich & Harrison

Matchaful, the matcha tea local chain that opened its first permanent brick-and-mortar on Canal in 2019 (though founded as a pop-up at Smorgasburg in 2012), will soft open today, August 25, on Greenwich and Harrison in Independence Plaza.

They have been working on the space for almost a year, but not by choice! “It’s been a tough road,” founder Hannah Habes said. (That’s her above with two of her boys, who were there to “help” set up.) “But the space is so nice — the light especially.”

Hannah closed the Canal location in 2023, but she now has seven other locations in the city — the vision was always a local chain — including one on Prince and Sullivan. But they still had some original customers from Canal Street who wouldn’t migrate up to Soho so they had way Downtown in their sights. “We’ve been looking for a space in Tribeca for a long time and we finally found a place we love,” Hannah said.

They will debut a kids menu on September 10 and there is a new Tribeca Tropic matcha — ceremonial-grade matcha, passionfruit puree, Madagascar vanilla bean, tocos, maple and coconut milk.

More TK when they open.

  1. Really hope they clean up that sidewalk area and keep it clean. Easily the dirtiest corner in Tribeca.

  2. That looks a lot more like Harrison than North Moore…

  3. Yes is Harrison

  4. On windy days that whole corner swirls dirt and debris in a tornado like situation as long time residents of IPN know.
Hope it’s not too much of a problem for them. Nice to see that corner occupied though. Good Luck.
