Thanks to J. for the shot: Five Guys, the hamburger franchise that is now decades old, and a new spot called Fluffies Hot Chicken have both opened on Canal, just east of Broadway. (Turns out Five Guys is Five Brothers in Chinese.)
Fluffies Hot Chicken was founded by two brothers — Raad and Saad Basra — and their mother, who serves as the executive chef. They opened the first one in New Jersey; this is now the sixth between Jersey and the city. They offer a South Asian twist to hot chicken — which I guess was a Nashville thing but is now a global craze? — along with crispy hot wings, stuffed fries and mac & cheese. Some of their locations are open until 3a!

It was at one point the fastest-growing fast-food chain in the United States, with a 32.8 percent sales increase from 2010 to 2011. It’s now a franchise, and the “guys,” five brothers, must be in their 60s…
