PUBLIC SCHOOLS START SEPTEMBER 10
This may be the latest school start ever? Public schools’ first day is Thursday, September 10. And I guess they will pay for it at the end: last day of classes is Monday, June 28.
REPAIRS ON THE N/Q/R/W LINES
There will be no trains at N/Q/R/W stations in Manhattan for the weeknights from August 31 to September 4, 9:30p to 5:00a.
FUNDING A PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK
Tribecan and photographer Susan Rosenberg Jones is producing “Widowed,” a collection of photographic portraits of widows and widowers accompanied by their own words about love, loss, grief and the lives they have built after the deaths of their spouses. And she is now seeking donations so she can place the book in the hands of people and organizations that could best share it: grief counselors, bereavement groups, hospice programs, libraries and organizations that support widows and widowers. More soon, but in the meantime, donate here.
NEW JAZZ CLUB IN FIDI
L. sent a note: there’s a new jazz club in Fidi called One Flight Up that she says has great music “and the friendly environment is classy – but not formal or stuffy.” More soon when I get over there. In the meantime, they are open at 108 Greenwich, south of the World Trade Center, Tuesday to Saturday, 6p to midnight (till 1 on Friday and Saturday).

Always glad to hear of a new jazz venue! We have several great ones in Tribeca, so we are blessed (Roxy upstairs, Django, Saint Tuesday).
